Young Readers’ Choice Society of British Columbia is the organization that manages the Red Cedar Award. Registered as a non-profit in 1996, the Society is run by volunteers and is supported through donations and grants.

When it was formed, the Society had one purpose: to administer a reading program for children ending in the presentation of annual awards to authors of the kids’ favoured books.

The Society also had seven basic duties from registering groups in the reading program, creating reading short-lists, creating activities, administering voting, organiazing an awards ecent, raising funds and promoting the program throughout BC.

Some of those duties have changed over the years, but the principle still remains the same. We want children to read interesting, diverse books from Canadian authors, and vote for their favourites.

The 2020-2023 strategic plan document will be posted soon!
