This book was cool because it was telling a story about a girl’s life and how sometimes she felt like no one noticed her.  She said she was an amazing drawer and she wanted to go to art school some day and she thought that kids of all colour can be together.  I think it’s cool that she wanted to be an artist.  Even though there was a war, and her family was poor, she still tried and did not give up.

I give this book a 4.9 because it is a fascinating book! Gyo Fujikawa loved to draw! She moved to America where she took art classes and eventually worked for Walt Disney Studios and began her career as an artist. Later on, she wrote a children’s book with both white and black  children. I like how she explained the characters feelings and emotions. I wish she added more details about her life and some real pictures of her in the book. Other than that, this book was fascinating and very intriguing!
