No Fixed Address by Susin Nielsen

A touching and funny middle-grade story about family, friendship and growing up when you’re one step away from homelessness.

Felix Knuttson, twelve, is an endearing kid with an incredible brain for trivia. His mom Astrid is loving but unreliable; she can’t hold onto a job, or a home. When they lose their apartment in Vancouver, they move into a camper van, just for August, till Astrid finds a job. September comes, they’re still in the van; Felix must keep “home” a secret and give a fake address in order to enroll in school. Luckily, he finds true friends. As the weeks pass and life becomes grim, he struggles not to let anyone know how precarious his situation is. When he gets to compete on a national quiz show, Felix is determined to win — the cash prize will bring them a home. Their luck is about to change! But what happens is not at all what Felix expected.

This is an amazing story about a young teen named Felix living a life with a lot of obstacles. I liked it because all of the characters were relatable and fun.I just could not put this book down!I loved it so much so I gave it 5 stars!

I give this book a rating of 3.2 because it is not your typical suspenseful mystery novel, but it keeps you reading with Felix’s sad and heartfelt storytelling. The faults were that the book started at the police station and then went back in time to unfold the story, so the flash back made the plot a bit confusing at first. The book also seemed a bit flat plot-wise; I did not feel as drawn in because it lacked excitement. Otherwise, it was a great book and pulled you through those hard emotional times of Felix’s as a young teen and those that cared for him.
