Non-Fiction: Secret Schools: True Stories of the Determination to Learn

What if going to school had to be kept a secret?  There are many reasons learning has had to be hidden. Students have been denied the ability to speak their own language, to learn about their culture, or banned from learning if they were a girl!  Secret schools have been needed throughout history so students can learn without fear of oppression. 

Questions: 

  1. Some people have not been allowed learn about their own language or culture. Why would that be? 
  2. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for fighting for equality. What did he do in secret for his fellow prisoners?
  3. Why would some countries not allow girls to go to school?
  4. What was Camp X and what would you learn there?
  5. Which of the radical schools would you like to attend and why?
