Keltie Thomas writes:
Hi there, Red Cedar Readers!
I’m absolutely thrilled to bits that you have the chance to read my book How Soccer Works. I’ll let you in on a little secret: writing books makes me feel like a modern-day explorer. I dive head-first into fascinating topics, sink neck-deep into research, probe burning questions, and uncover incredible facts and stories.
As I write about what I discover, I draw inspiration from a painting that hangs above my computer. The painting depicts a brilliant blue sky peeking through some treetops. And whenever I come up for air, the peek-a-boo sky winks at me as if to say, \"Hey Keltie, the possibilities are limitless. Write on!\"
If you want to write, read, read, and read anything you can get your hands on—books, magazines, blogs, comics— anything that interests you. As you read, ask yourself: how does the author get my attention and grab my interest? Then write something that you’d like to read and try to use those techniques or methods in your own writing. Go for it!

About the Illustrator:
Stephen MacEachern writes:
I was born in Brampton and grew up in Orangeville, Ontario. As a child, he enjoyed watching cartoons, and drawing Bugs Bunny and Hockey Goalies.
I went on to study at Sheridan Institute’s celebrated animation and illustration programs. To further fuel my artistry, I spent a year on the road, traveling down under to Australia and over across to Southeast Asia.
I now own my own successful graphic design and Illustration business. My artwork can be found in many children\'s books, websites and advertising campaigns. When not working, I enjoy many hobbies including playing ice-hockey, watching my son play hockey, coaching hockey and reading about hockey. I also enjoy coaching both my son\'s and daughter\'s soccer teams in the summers.
I currently live in Erin, Ontario with my wife and two children, where I occasionally still watch Bugs Bunny.
It\'s important to find something in life that you love to do, whether it be drawing, sports, nature or any other activity. Then practice it and practice it some more while having fun the whole time. Before you know it you will be great at something you really enjoy doing and who knows, in the future it may become your career.
